We ♥ NYC

In the late 1970s, during a time of crisis in New York City, the iconic “I ♥ NY” catchphrase emerged. Now, a new campaign called “We ♥ NYC” is being introduced by a coalition of elected officials and community partners led by the Partnership for New York City. The aim is to rejuvenate people’s spirits and encourage them to make a positive difference in their community. The campaign has garnered support from more than 15 non-profit groups and churches. Unlike the original campaign, which was created during a time when the city was in dire straits and the government was unable to help, “We ♥ NYC” is more about bringing people together and fixing what they see as broken in the city. The new logo is a modern twist on the original, with a font adapted from subway signs. Although the campaign may face some confusion with the original, it aims to be we-oriented and clear about its purpose. While the mayor has a role to play, fixing the city will require a positive feeling among the people in their community.

Mayor Adams spoke on CNBC’s Squawk Box today about the company. You can read the full transcript here.
