MetLife Stadium from NYC

Giants, Jets, concerts, and the 2026 World Cup — every event at MetLife is reachable from Manhattan by train or bus without touching a parking lot. Here's how.

⚽ World Cup 2026 — Matchday Transit Is NOT Normal

MetLife hosts 8 matches including the Final on July 19. Matchday rail between Penn Station and Secaucus is restricted to FIFA ticket holders with advance-purchase stadium tickets (capped at 40,000/day, no same-day sales). Jump to the World Cup section ↓

Getting to MetLife Stadium

MetLife Stadium sits in the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, New Jersey — about 8 miles west of Midtown Manhattan. There's no subway and no regular daily train; instead, NJ Transit runs an event-day-only rail shuttle from Secaucus Junction, and Coach USA runs an event-day express bus from Port Authority Bus Terminal.

For any major event, transit beats driving. Stadium parking requires pre-purchased passes, the access roads back up for 60–90 minutes before kickoff, and the rail station is literally at the stadium's doorstep.

By Train: Penn Station → Secaucus → Stadium

Buy a ticket to "Meadowlands" in the NJ Transit app (or at a Penn Station machine). One ticket covers both legs. For reference, Penn → Secaucus alone is $4.95 — event pricing varies, so check njtransit.com/meadowlands.
Take any NJ Transit train to Secaucus Junction — almost every departing train stops there. It's the first stop, about 10 minutes from Penn Station. Check departures →
Follow the "Meadowlands" signs downstairs at Secaucus and board the Meadowlands Rail Line shuttle — about 10 minutes to Meadowlands Sports Complex Station, steps from the stadium gates.

Service window: the shuttle typically starts ~3.5–4 hours before the event and runs until about an hour after it ends. It does NOT run on non-event days — there is no rail service to an empty stadium.

Leaving after the event: expect a 20–40 minute queue at Meadowlands Station after big events. Trains load continuously, but 20,000+ people heading for the same platform takes time. Lingering 30 minutes after the final whistle often nets a shorter wait.

By Bus: Coach USA 351 Meadowlands Express

On event days, the 351 Meadowlands Express runs nonstop from Port Authority Bus Terminal to MetLife Stadium — about 20–30 minutes via the Lincoln Tunnel, roughly $18 round trip. Service starts about 2.5 hours before the event, and buses return continuously afterward.

Train vs. bus: the bus is one-seat and cheap, but it sits in the same Lincoln Tunnel and Route 3 traffic as every car. The train transfer at Secaucus is immune to game-day congestion — for big events, rail is the more predictable ride.

World Cup 2026 at MetLife Stadium

MetLife — branded "New York New Jersey Stadium" for the tournament — hosts 8 matches, including the Final on Sunday, July 19. FIFA and NJ Transit have replaced normal event service with a ticket-holder-only system. If you're going to a match, plan transit before matchday.

MetLife Match Dates

June 13 · June 16 · June 22 · June 25 · June 27 · June 30 · July 5 · July 19 (Final)

Matchday rail is restricted. Starting 4 hours before kickoff, NJ Transit rail between Penn Station New York and Secaucus Junction is limited to FIFA match ticket holders. Stadium rail tickets must be bought in advance in the NJ Transit app — capped at 40,000 per matchday, with no same-day sales.

Special event fare. World Cup stadium rail pricing is a premium round-trip fare set specifically for the tournament (announced at $105 round trip after public pushback reduced the original $150). Confirm current pricing in the NJ Transit app before relying on it.

Not going to the match? On matchdays, regular NJ Transit rail tickets are cross-honored on PATH at 33rd Street–Herald Square for travel to Newark Penn or Hoboken, where you can connect onward. Build in extra time — Penn Station will be saturated with fans.

All stadium trains run via Secaucus Junction. There is no direct Manhattan–stadium train. Fans transfer at Secaucus to a matchday-only train or bus to the stadium, exclusively for ticket holders.

Driving & Rideshare

MetLife is 25 minutes from Midtown with no traffic — and 60–90+ minutes before a big event. Stadium lots require pre-purchased parking passes for most events; there is no general cash parking.

Rideshare: Uber/Lyft drop at designated zones near the stadium. Outbound is the painful direction — surge pricing after events is severe, and the pickup lot queue can exceed an hour after NFL games and concerts. If you rideshare in, strongly consider taking the train out.

Parking passes: sold through Ticketmaster/SeatGeek with your event ticket, or via the stadium's parking page. Lots open ~3 hours before events. Tailgating is allowed for NFL games in designated lots.

What to Know Before You Go

Buy your return trip up front. Round-trip rail or bus tickets skip the post-event ticket-machine lines — the single biggest time-saver of the night.

MetLife enforces a clear-bag policy. Bags larger than a small clutch must be clear plastic. Lockers don't exist at the stadium — stash bags in Manhattan before heading out. Luggage storage options →

Phone service dies at capacity. With 80,000+ people, mobile networks crawl. Screenshot your tickets and your return rail ticket before you leave Manhattan.

Check the last shuttle time. Meadowlands rail service ends roughly an hour after the event. Miss it and you're in the rideshare surge queue.
