NYC Taxis

Outside of using public transportation, taxis are both a classic and iconic way to travel in New York City. With so many car services though, there are definitely a lot of alternative ways to hail a car. Taxis have been forced to modernize though to enable hailing via apps. See below for some key information on taxis in New York City.

Yellow Cab

Yellow cabs are the only vehicles that have the right to pick, up street-hailing passengers anywhere in New York City. All taxis must have a medallion affixed to it. Below are some useful links from the NYC Taxi & Limousine Commission.

Green Cab

Green cabs can pick up passengers but are not allowed to do so in the Hail Exclusionary Zone south of West 110th St and East 96th St. This primarily means, The Bronx, Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens (excluding airports), and Northern Manhattan. They can drop you off anywhere.
